Moving to a new city can be an exciting but daunting experience. One of your most important tasks will be to find a place to live. Where do you start looking? Where do other people like you live? Where are the schools? Are there any areas you should avoid?

As you look at property websites or magazines you soon find that the suburb names are unfamiliar, and there are lots of them.

The good news is that help is at hand in the form of InSuburbia's Visual City Guides for Perth and Auckland (with Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne to follow). These guides use 21st century mapping techniques to show you not only where suburbs, roads etc are, but what sort of people live there, are they relatively affluent or relatively poor (on a 10-point scale).

They help you to find out which suburbs are more likley to suit you, and to establish if a particular suburb you are looking at (e.g. at a house/appartment to rent or buy) is more or less affluent, has better or worse areas and what schools are nearby.
